Clare and Her Car Help Raise Cash for the Variety Bash

Clare Lindop has seen a lot of country South Australia over her career, riding at many tracks around our state but when she joined this year’s Variety Bash she had the opportunity to visit a few more places off the beaten track.

Clare teamed up with Car 922 for this year’s Bash which travelled 1875km from Mount Barker to Mount Gambier from 12-19 of August.

To help with the fundraising efforts for Car 922 in the Bash, on the 22 July meeting at Morphettville, Clare donated all her prizemoney earnings from that day to Variety and had the support of her Bash team mate’s trackside who collected donations from generous punters.

“The tin rattlers collected over $1,000 in donations on the Saturday at Morphettville which was outstanding. Along with the money I donated, some sponsorship from Leon Macdonald Racing and a very generous $1,000 donation from Thoroughbred Racing SA, we raised just over $3,000 from that one day at Morphettville which was awesome.”

“I’ve been involved with Variety for a while and it’s just been such an honour to be involved with such a well-respected charity. When I had the chance to join the Bash, I jumped at the opportunity.”

“I Joined the Bash for three days, meeting them in Burra on the Sunday and then had stops in Barmera and Mildura along the way.”

“It was a fantastic experience, winding through stations and farms, opening and shutting gates, driving through salt bush, scrub and paddocks all the way along the river.”

Throughout the Bash, the participants stop at various locations along the way where they visit some of the places like schools and hospitals where the money they helped to raise is used.

“It was great seeing little communities lining the streets in small towns and seeing farmers sitting in deck chairs on their back verandahs cheering us on. It was fantastic to stop in places like Burra and Barmera and see all the great things Variety help with in these small communities.”

“It’s really like a school camp for adults. Everyone is in such a good mood and the community spirit on the trip is fantastic. Get to meet people from all walks of life and it’s all for such a great cause.”

This year’s South Australian Variety Bash ended up raising $2.537 million for children in South Australia.
