Apprentice Jockey- Alfred Chan took home four wins

The Hong Kong- born apprentice Alfred Chan took home a massive four wins last week on South Australian tracks. A quote from Chan last year in September 2017 after his first win and big move to Adelaide, “I love it here. Hopefully I can get a few more rides now.” And the clear success from last week’s wins proves he has accomplished this goal.

Chan started the first of his wins off on Wednesday 1st of August at Morphettville Racecourse in Race 1 aboard J’Adore for trainer Lloyd Kennewell, followed by another winner in Race 3, Flop, for local trainer Gordon Richards. Chan then booted home another Metropolitan double on Saturday 4th of August at Morphettville riding the winner of Race 6, Extreme Witness, and then steering home the race favourite and winner, Dexelation, in Race 8.

Unlike other jockeys, Chan hasn’t come from a family of horse-racing enthusiasts, instead, Chan’s desire to get into racing only came about at the age of 18, before this he had never been in contact with horses.

It looks like Chan has found his calling as success continues to shine bright for Chan. He has set some career goals before heading back to Hong Kong in March 2019. Chan is currently sitting on 94 winners and is now striving to reach 100 winners in the upcoming month, as he focuses tightly on his technique and opportunities to ride for a range of different trainers. But it doesn’t stop there - Chan is setting the bar even higher, determined to reach 130 wins by March 2019 and by the looks of the past week, Chan is on his way to achieving his goals.

Briony Moore from the TRSA Apprentice Academy says, Alfred has just come back from a short holiday and is mentally and physically fresh, ready for the new season. His dedication to working hard and his focus in achieving the highest level is a credit to The Hong Kong Jockey Club.

We will watch Chan eagerly as he takes on these ambitious goals for the season and cheer for him to steer home some more wins and do himself proud.
