MEDIA RELEASE: Clare Lindop joins the immortals in SA Thoughbred Racing’s Hall of Fame

Clare Lindop will add another accolade to her glittering trophy collection by being inducted into the South Australian Thoroughbred Racing Hall of Fame on Saturday night (1 September).

Lindop – who was the first Australian woman to ride in a Melbourne Cup, the first female winner of the Victoria Derby and one of the most accomplished female jockeys of all time – will be formally inducted during the 2018 South Australian Thoroughbred Racing Industry Awards held at Morphettville.

She stepped back from racing earlier this year after a 23-year career that included four Group 1 wins, more than 50 black-type race victories, 22 country and metro cups and more than 1,400 winners in total.

“To have my name sitting alongside the legends of South Australian racing is truly an honour,” she said.

“I am extremely proud of my achievements and the fact that I am part of racing history. I want to thank everyone who helped and supported me throughout my career. If it wasn’t for them, I wouldn’t be here.

The evening will also see the induction of legendary owner and breeder Harry Perks, who bred more than 100 stakes winners

Winners of the 2018 South Australian Thoroughbred Racing Industry Awards will be announced Saturday night.
