5 reasons to save the date for the Oakbank Easter Racing Carnival

The Easter Racing Carnival has been one of South Australia’s premier social and sporting occasions for almost 150 years, and the annual pilgrimage to the Adelaide Hills is a family tradition that goes back generations.

2019 is no exception. We have a jam-packed weekend of racing and entertainment on offer to ensure the tradition keeps going.

In case you need some convincing, here are five reasons why you should be saving the date for the Oakbank Easter Races on Saturday April 20 and Monday April 22.

Reason #1 – Oakbank is the only racetrack in Australia where you can BYO everything!

Yes, you read correctly. You can bring your own food, alcohol and all other drinks into the racetrack. To keep the costs down, why not pack a picnic basket for the kids, a bottle of wine and some beer for the parents, afternoon tea and anything else you need to ensure you enjoy your Easter Saturday.

Reason #2 – There’s a hospitality package to suit everyone

Introducing the all new Mollydooker Long Lunch package. This is our premium offering for those who enjoy the finer things in life. In this package, you will enjoy lunch and a 5-hour drink package and access to the members grandstand and lawns.

Another new offering in 2019 are our Reserved Umbrella Sites. They make the perfect spot to relax and enjoy a day at The Races. For $260 you get a reserved table for 6 people, umbrella and 6 chairs along the home straight (talk about prime spot!). Pack a picnic basket with goodies to enjoy throughout the afternoon and a short walk away are the general admission pop up bars to ensure the drinks are flowing all afternoon.

You can discover all our hospitality packages here. Alternatively, for $30 entry you will enjoy general admission which gives you access to all general admission area, pop up bars, food trucks and all the trackside action. Don’t forget, children under 13 are free.

Reason #3 – There’s plenty of freebies to keep the kids entertained

From free pony rides, arts and crafts, ball and arcade games, football activities, Easter egg hunts – the list goes on. We work hard throughout the year to ensure there is enough to keep the kids happy throughout the afternoon – and all FREE.

You can read our dedicated article here, which outlines 30 things for the kids to do for free your $30 general admission fee.

Reason #4 - Fashion At The Races is giving away $2,000

For those who like to ‘frock up’ and keep the racing tradition going, you may wish to participate in our Fashion At The Races competition. There is a top prize of $2,000 cash for the Best Dressed Womenswear category. More details on the Fashion At The Races competition can be found here – which outlines all the categories and judging criteria.

Reason #5 – There’s return transport on offer

The easiest way to get to and from the track is with our return bus transfer offering – making it easier for you to enjoy a few drinks without the need to organise a lift home.

Transport is available from a range of locations across town – from the Maid Hotel in Kent Town to the Uraidla Hotel.

You can see a list of all pick up and drop off locations here.
