Markets point to a jumbo Jess day at Morphettville

Form apprentice Jessica Eaton is poised for a big day at Morphettville on Saturday if markets are any guide.

The Victorian rider, who has taken all before her in SA this season and sits at the top of the Adelaide riders’ premiership alongside Todd Pannell on 13 wins, has a big book of eight rides, five currently marked favourite with tab.com.au.

Eaton has two rides for boss Michael Hickmott, while her services have been sourced by some of Victoria’s leading trainers including the Freedman and Corstens teams.

The interesting runner could be in the last race, when Golden Halo makes a return to Adelaide.

The horse is no stranger to Morphettville having defeated Gytrash here during her three-year-old season when with Darren Weir.

She had a brief stint with Ciaron Maher and David Eustace before joining Daniel Bowman’s stable and finished fifth in the 2019 Group 2 Euclase Stakes behind Valour Road. She then ran down the track in the Group 3 Proud Miss Stakes and was runner-up behind Gytrash in last year’s Creswick Stakes.

Golden Halo tuned up for her Adelaide return with a nice effort, beaten just 1.25 lengths behind Pinyin at Caulfield recently.

Eaton’s only race without a ride could very well be the strongest on the card: the $100,000 Rebel Raider Series Final, which is loaded with three-year-old talent.

The race features four last-start winners: Mileva, Celestine, Alleboom and Quietly Discreet. In addition, Extra Time has drawn perfectly in barrier three and the Will Clarken-pair of Gaze Grise and Beau Rossa, who both ran well first-up from a break, loom as horses to follow as they progress this campaign.
