Sam Hayes: The Legacy
Sam Hayes: The Legacy

In the 1970s and 80s Lindsay Park Stud situated in South Australia, was regarded as one of the top five thoroughbred studs in Australia. That mantle slipped when Colin’s focus turned to the Collingrove stud in Victoria in partnership with the Sangster family.
Now, with David Hayes steering the fortunes of the racing stables, 33 year-old Sam - nephew of David and son of the late Peter Hayes – is rebuilding the stud.
The stud became more independent of the racing operation in 2005 when Sam and wife Emily purchased 25% from David. Then last year, together with partner Darren Thomas, they bought the rest.
At the heart of Sam’s enthusiasm for his new role is a deep passion for the racing industry and for the job at hand.
“It’s not really like going to work. It’s more like going somewhere where you want to be. That’s what I find about lot of successful people in racing; they’re just doing what they love to do and it just happens to be a business as well,” he says.
