Network Ten Weather Presenter Kate Freebairn has been named the new Ambassador for Fashion at The Races – South Australia’s most prestigious racing fashion competition.
Adelaide-born Kate joined Network Ten as a News Reporter in 2007 and took on the role of Weather Presenter in April 2013. She has frequented country and city race meetings since she was a child and has a keen eye for fashion – hosting and judging numerous fashion events across the state.
“I am so excited to be the Ambassador for Fashion at The Races 2014-15. I’ve found the competition really lifts the bar at race days across the state – it’s a great excuse to get dressed up,” Kate said.
Fashion savvy Kate will host several Fashion at The Races events across SA over the coming year, with the Scott Group of Companies Mt Gambier Gold Cup in May her first official appearance.
“Autumn and winter race days are a favourite of mine so I'm really looking forward to the Mount Gambier Gold Cup. I've never been to Mount Gambier before and have heard it's a great spot so I can’t wait to check it out!” she said.
The cooler weather suits Kate who usually opts for a more classic look, but has fun accessorising with things like gloves and scarves.
“I prefer quality over quantity. I'd rather spend a bit more to invest in a classic piece of clothing that I can keep for years, than fill my wardrobe with on trend pieces I will only wear once before they go out of fashion,” she said.
“My advice to Fashion at The Races entrants is be true to your own personal style and don't be afraid to stand out. Remember to dress for a traditional race day and not for a night out, and invest in a great head piece – it can make or break your outfit!”
In her role as Fashion at The Races Ambassador, Kate will be dressed by Perri Cutten and Studio Hats throughout the year.
