With a long and proud history, the Mount Gambier Racing Club is the largest Race Club in the Limestone Coast of South Australia and is a full time Training Centre. The MGRC holds 10 race meetings a season, with the ‘show piece’ being the Scott Group of Companies Mount Gambier Gold Cup Carnival held over two days in May. Other major events includes the Beachport Liquid Minerals Twilight Races held on a Friday evening in December and the Holcim Summer Cup in January.

Following the confirmation of a successful application to the Federal Government’s Building Better Regions Fund (BBRF) initiative, Thoroughbred Racing SA has today announced a $3.3 million redevelopment of the Mount Gambier Racing Club’s track at Glenburnie.
The annual Scott’s Group of Companies Mount Gambier Gold Cup will now be held on Friday 1 December, before the track undergoes a $3.3 million redevelopment, as recently announced by Thoroughbred Racing SA.
Located 439 km south east of Adelaide, Mount Gambier is the jewel of South Australia's south-eastern region. It is a large rural centre (population over 24,000) which is characterised by a large number of attractive, historic buildings and the major attraction of the Blue Lake.
Mount Gambier is sustained by a range of industries. There is a very active timber industry sustained by plantations of radiata pine, the surrounding area is noted for sheep and cattle raising and the soil is rich enough for both grain crops and vegetables to be grown.
