Since 1881 the Port Augusta Racing Club has provided the region with quality thoroughbred racing on its iconic sand track. The Port Augusta Racing Club hosts 9 race meets and is home to more than 12 trainers. Race days are a great social event for everyone to enjoy, fantastic entertainment for all the family, and racing hospitality at its best.
Port Augusta’s central location sees it as the heart of thoroughbred racing in the Spencer Gulf, and its facilities make it a premier site for racing. With the majestic Flinders Ranges as the backdrop to the Port Augusta racecourse, it has become famous for its breathtaking view.

We support many local community groups and promote a day at the races to visitors both statewide and interstate. Full catering, with tote facilities and book makers on course, a day at the races has something for all the family.
Thousands flock to the annual City of Port Augusta Cup in July which is always a day of great of racing, fashion and fun. Port Augusta’s mild winter weather and fantastic location make this a much anticipated social event.

To maintain and grow the industry in the Spencer Gulf region, the Port Augusta Racing Club has endorsed a Masterplan and completed a new Strategic Plan projecting future direction and objectives working closely with the Port Augusta City Council and Thoroughbred Racing SA.
The committee is dedicated to improving the racecourse’s facilities and undertaking measures to ensure successful and safe race meets.
The Ian's Western Hotel Saloon, Ian's Western Members Lounge, recently refurbished Dick Langsford Betting Ring and the Historic Grandstand are just some of the great facilities at the Port Augusta racecourse, which comes alive when racing hits the 2100m track.
