2009 Industry Awards


The 2009 Thoroughbred Racing Industry Awards were held at Morphettville Racecourse on the 23rd of August.

Amy Hermann, Apprentice Jockey of the Year Metro and CountryOver 400 people attend the lunchtime event in August last year to celebrate the 2008/2009 racing season and the achievements of their peers.

Bruce Abernathy acted as Master of Ceremony, while Terry McAuliffe conducted informative interviews of award recipients.

Injured jockey Scott Leckey made a moving speech, thanking those that have supported him in his recovery after a tragic fall in Darwin two years ago.

Amongst the award winners were:

  • Rebel Raider: Festival Hire Champion Racehorse of the Year
  • Peter Kemp: Minister for Racing Award for Most Outstanding Achievement by a Volunteer
  • Kangaroo Island: Sky Racing Most Outstanding Achievement by a Club
