Eat and drink your way around Kangaroo Island

Fresh, seasonal, artisan and always close to its source, Kangaroo Island’s food scene is like nothing you’ve tasted before. From wineries perched on cliff tops to lavish lunches among the branches of an ancient fig tree, eat and drink your way around the best of Kangaroo Island.

Start your food journey at Sunset Food and Wine – the island’s newest food destination. If you’re after great food, spectacular views of the ocean and a relaxed atmosphere, you’ll be happy perched on the deck. Sunset Food and Wine specialise in modern Australian cuisine with a focus on seafood and local, seasonal produce.

There’s no better place to devour oysters, marron, abalone and King George whiting than The Oyster Farm Shop. Walk across the road to the jetty, dangle your legs over the edge and tuck into the oysters farmed 200 meters away in American River.

Shack up in style with Life-Time Private retreats. With your own private access to Snellings Beach, a hot tub and outdoor patio, you’ll never want to leave. The team will come to prepare dinner out on the patio while you sit back and spot the local pod of dolphins with a local vino in hand.

An absolute KI must-do is dinner at the Shearing Shed or Enchanted Fig Tree. The 150-year old shearing shed is ambient with candle light, antique furniture, chandeliers and 1920s music playing from the gramophone. Enter another world in the Enchanted Fig Tree. With dining rooms buried deep within the tree, all you see of the outside world is dappled light streaming through the fig leaves.

Kangaroo Island spirits is conveniently located just outside Kingscote. The distillery is rustic, family operated and intimate. The cellar door is a hive of activity and all the staff love and know their gin.

The SeaLink Kangaroo Island Carnival takes place from Thursday 16 February to Saturday 18 February 2017. To find out more information about the Carnival, click here.
