Hills Gourmet Gallop kicks-off Oakbank racing festivities

The Oakbank Racing Club is gearing up for its first race meet next weekend ahead of the world-famous Oakbank Easter Racing Carnival which kicks-off on Saturday, 15 April before coming together again on Monday, 17 April.

The Hills Gourmet Gallop will be held next Sunday, April 2 on the picturesque Oakbank race course. It will feature both hurdle and steeplechase races and it will be the perfect appetizer for racegoers to the famous Oakbank Easter Racing Carnival.

The event is another way the Club is supporting the Adelaide Hills community and adding a fresh element to its annual offering, while retaining the renowned picnic tradition that has made Oakbank such a sought-after Easter destination.

Adelaide Hills wineries including – Goldings, Sidewood, Barristers Block, Between the Vines and Verdun Park Wines– will feature at the Hills Gourmet Gallop with their top drops accompanied by mouth-watering regional specialties. A selection of children’s activities will also keep the young ones entertained.

Oakbank Racing Club Chairman Barney Gask said the Hills Gourmet Gallop was a great opportunity for families unable to make the Easter Racing Carnival, to experience a day at the races and enjoy the region in a similar way.

“It really extends what we do here at Oakbank and offers more to racegoers and the Hills community,” Mr Gask said.

Adelaide-based Sooki Lala will be serving delicious Asian street food while The Gnocchi Kitchen whips up freshly made gnocchi with delicious sauces, and Moorish Bites offers racegoers everything Moroccan spice and all things nice.

A family-oriented day out, there will be many great activities for kids of all ages, including an animal petting zoo, pony rides, Kelly Sports and Stable Stars Kids Club.

The Hills Gourmet Gallop is the ideal way to kick off the racing season at Oakbank and get a taste of the very best of country racing and the beautiful Adelaide Hills.
