It’s a huge day of racing at Morphettville on Saturday as we look towards to the Adelaide Festival of Racing in May. There are three Listed races on Saturday and two of them will be key form races looking ahead to the Group One Schweppes Oaks and Group One UBET SA Derby.
With a funding injection from the State Government aimed to boost prizemoney, the next six Saturday meetings at Morphettville will see every race carry a minimum purse of $100,000.
Race 2 - Listed Dequetteville Stakes 1050m - 2YO Fillies
With five debutants starting their careers in this race on Saturday it's hard to get a guide on almost half the field but from the ones that have raced, the runner that stands out is the Matthew Ellerton & Simon Zahra trained Arctic Angel. She has twice been placed at Group 2 level and also has a Listed win to her name, so she looks tough to beat on paper.
Other main chances include the locally trained Broadband from the Phillip Stokes yard who has had a sixth placing in the Group 3 Ottawa Stakes while Spiritual Girl and Freeze Over will be hoping they can remain undefeated in their short racing careers.
Freeze Over has been installed as a $2.80 favourite with UBET, while there are four other runners in single figures including debutant Pledgeofallegiance from the Leon & Troy Corstens yard.

Race 7 - Listed LaeliaStakes 1600m - 3YO Fillies
Over the last three years the Laelia has been run at the start of the Autumn Carnival and proven to be a good tune up for the Group 3 Auraria Stakes and Group 1 Schweppes Oaks.
The first three horses across the line in the Laelia are exempt from the ballot and guaranteed a start in the Schweppervescence (Auraria) Stakes.
The Laelia has not been a happy hunting ground for favourites, with no favourite placing over the last three years. There has been plenty of value to be found however with the average winning price being $16.10.
|Year||Winner||Price||Auraria Stakes Finish||Australasian Oaks Finish|
|2016||C'est Beau La Vie||$27.40||2nd||3rd|
The Darren Weir trained Kenedna will headline this year's field and start favourite after taking out the Group 3 Vanity at Flemington earlier in the year while Pretty Punk will be hoping to recapture some of the form she showed when she beat the boys in the Listed Hill Smith Stakes. The Daniel Clarken trained Peninsula Links will be looking to continue her great 2017 which has included three wins and a fourth place in the Group 3 Alexandra Stakes at Moonee Valley.
