Darren Weir has confirmed that Black Heart Bart will return to Adelaide to defend his Group 1 Darley Goodwood title in May.
After notching up his first Group 1 win in last year’s Darley Goodwood, Bart has since gone on to win five Group 1’s and amassed close to $3.5 million in prizemoney.
Black Heart Bart is currently the $3.40 favourite in the early markets with UBET but history is against the champion galloper going back to back. No horse has won two Goodwood’s, let alone consecutively, since Musket Belle went back to back in 1911-1912.
If Bart could achieve this feat, it would go down as one of the great moments in South Australian racing history and would be incredibly fitting with this year’s Darley Goodwood becoming one of South Australia’s first $1 million races.
The $1 million Darley Goodwood will be run on Saturday 20 May at Morphettville.
