$1 Million UBET Classic Attracts Exceptional Field

The $1-million-dollar purse for next Saturday’s Group 1 UBET Classic has attracted some of Australia’s finest fillies and mares including Group 1 winners English, I am a Star and Sheidel.

Australia’s first lady of racing Gai Waterhouse has her sights set on taking out a second UBET Classic with her classy mare English headlining the list of nominations for next weekend’s $1 Million Group 1 UBET Classic.

English boasts a sensational record with a Group 1 victory to her name in the 2016 All Aged Stakes where she defeated superstar Black Heart Bart. The mare also has three Group 2 wins, a second behind Vancouver in the 2015 Golden Slipper and has placed twice in the TJ Smith Stakes.

Gai Waterhouse knows what it takes to win a UBET Classic, last winning the race in 2014 with her mare Driefontein.

Adelaide will also have the chance to see last year’s Group 1 Myer Classic winner I am a Star. The three-year-old filly has built a very nice resume in her short career for trainer Shane Nichols, collecting two Group 2 and two Group 3 wins to go with her Myer Classic title.

As reported earlier in the week, Hong Kong superstar Joao Moreira is set to ride the David & Ben Hayes and Tom Dabernig trained Sheidel in the $1 million Group 1. Moreira has an undefeated record on Sheidel, riding her twice for two wins. One being in this year’s Group 1 Oakleigh Plate.

South Australia’s best chance of a victory in the UBET Classic looks to be in the hands of Lloyd Kennewell and his classy mare Viddora.

Viddora has done everything right in her preparation so far ahead of the big Group 1 running second behind the experienced Karlovasi in the Listed Manihi and then winning the Group 3 Irwin Stakes on the weekend.

The undefeated Desert Lashes has also nominated for the UBET Classic and if she could make it nine from nine, she might just bring down the Morphettville grandstand.
