Balf's Choice Claims the Balaklava Cup

A superb ride from 'The Wizard from the West,' William Pike has given trainer Ryan Balfour his first Balaklava Cup win with Balf's Choice.

Balf's Choice jumped perfectly from Barrier 6 and led for the majority of the race and started to kick away from the field on the bend at the 400m mark to record a 2.6 length win over Brown Ben and Jim's Journey.

Speaking to Racing.com's Adam McGrath, Ryan Balfour was 'ecstatic and over the moon' to have won the Cup and praised Pike for his ride on the gelding.

Balfour elected to fly Pike over from Perth for the Cup today and the decision proved to be a masterstroke as Pike summed up the race perfectly to give Balf's Choice his 8th career win.

Pike and Balfour combined earlier in the day for a win with Kirona in Race 5, while Jamie Kah also had a day out riding three winners for Tony McEvoy.
