Meet Our FATR Ambassador Lauren Dilena

The most extraordinary thing about Lauren Dilena is that before you’ve even seen her, you can feel her presence in the room. Exuding nothing but vivacity, the stylist leaves a trail of her signature bubbly charm wherever she goes, usually in an ultra-covetable pair of stilettos. We are so proud to announce Lauren as our Fashion At The Races Ambassador, and to celebrate, let’s take a closer look at the renowned style queen and her plans for the new role.

Lauren has been immersed in the world of fashion from childhood. Her mother, a fashion designer and lecturer, always surrounded Lauren with fabrics and sketches, designing what Lauren described as unique and innovative pieces. “This started an immense love for the fashion industry as I found myself creating edgy looks for all different occasions by mixing the classic and eclectic and producing a look that was always individual,” Lauren said. “Which I do now within my job styling clients.”

In 2011, Lauren entered a competition with Westfield South Australia and took home first prize, a win that kickstarted her stylist career. “This allowed me to work alongside some pretty amazing local, national and international clients and stylists,” Lauren said. “I’ve also worked on spectacular campaigns, workshops, fashion parades, editorial and commercial photo shoots,” she said. “I feel fortunate that I get to do something I love and am incredibly passionate about.”

In her role as a Senior Stylist, Lauren’s days are always changing, keeping her perpetually stimulated. “One day I could be styling personal clients to create new looks and educate them on what suits them best,” Lauren said. “Other days, I might be working on fashion editorials, advertorials and commercial work within my own business and Westfield South Australia.”

“I’m so thrilled, it’s absolutely such a privilege to be joining The Races SA team,” Lauren said. “FATR is such an iconic South Australian event that supports local businesses, and this is something very dear to me,” she said. “Not only will this role give me the opportunity to work alongside talented and like-minded individuals, but I’ll also be able to share all the behind scenes preparation, fun activities and how fabulous the day pans out on my socials.”

Lauren will be on stage hosting four-five major racing events throughout the upcoming season, beginning with the Murray Bridge Christmas Cup on December 2, Strathalbyn Cup on February 3, Adelaide Cup on March 11 and Oakbank Easter Races on April 20. “I will be keeping everyone up to date on my social accounts,” Lauren said. “If you’re interested in my plans on what I’ll be getting up to, feel free to come join and follow me on my Instagram.”

“Expect the unexpected,” Lauren said. “I’m excited to channel different looks across each and every single race – and hope this inspires others to take on a good challenge,” she said. “Make sure to keep an eye out for my tips and tricks on how to plan and look your best.”

With four days of fashion to plan for, Lauren will be preparing her hair, makeup and ensembles well ahead of time to ensure she is polished, sharp and at her most confident. “I may be collaborating with some local and talented designers, which is always great fun, as I get the privilege to frock up in some pretty amazing pieces,” Lauren said. “I love working with local milliners, and these are a few of my favourites; Mimi Jane Millinery, Sylvy Earl, Ashlee Lauren Designs… and I guess you’ll just have to wait and see!”

Of venturing to regional racing clubs, Lauren is most anticipating the chance to interact with the local racegoers and check out nearby creators and businesses. “I think seeing all the amazing locals frock up every year in their creative and innovated hand-made outfits – that’s what I get really excited about,” Lauren said.

“I know the regional races are more relaxed, but there is nothing better than seeing a man or woman dress to impress,” she said. “I believe the racing carnivals help support community growth; they also help bring the community together and allow small businesses to showcase their talent and therefore generate beneficial outcomes for all.”

“Of course, I’ll be looking for that one person that stands out from the crowd,” Lauren said. “I do love a classic and understated look, but then I’ll also be wanting to spot someone that can pull of an eccentric yet diverse look,” she said.

“Anything regional is always more unique, as its focus is on that particular race for that region and, of course, the personal fashion styles of the locals will be showcased at their finest,” Lauren said. “In South Australia we might have a lighter approach to races, but I do think we have amazing style that keeps up to date with what is trending across the globe and is right up there with the best.”

Lauren’s top tips for getting race ready are all about confidence in your self-expression. “Focus on knowing what suits your body type best and you’ll be able to pick a suitable ensemble that works with your personal style,” Lauren said. “This will allow you to feel confident and comfortable and show off your best attributes,” she said. “Anything that makes me do a double-take is what I’ll be looking for.”

Lauren will be sharing glimpses of her racing preparations across her social media platforms, along with plenty of expert advice. “If you’re wanting any advice on this Spring Carnival or Regional Races, I’m more than happy to advise you,” Lauren said. “Come follow me on Instagram @laurendilena or on Facebook as Lauren Dilena Stylist,” she said. “I can’t wait to get started and see what the country races are all about.”
