Bruce McAvaney to host TAB Adelaide Cup day

Good news ahead of the 2019 TAB Adelaide Cup day with Bruce McAvaney confirmed to host.

We managed to catch up with Bruce ahead of Cup Day and asked him a few questions.

Favourite Adelaide Cup memory:

The obvious ones are the now famous victories of Rain Lover, Just A Dash, Hyperno and Sub Zero – all of whom went on to win a Melbourne Cup – and the historic treble by Lord Reims. But my favourite would be the 2006 Adelaide Cup winner Exalted Time, owned by the Ken and Helen Smith, who put so much into South Australian racing. He was trained by an old mate, Jim Smith (unrelated), and ridden by Hall of Famer Clare Lindop.

Who are you looking forward to seeing race on Monday?

Eastender, the star from Tasmania, who in the last few weeks has captured everyone’s imagination by winning his state’s big treble.

Your tip for the Cup?

Bondeiger is well-weighted and looked dominant winning the traditional lead-up race at Morphettville last Saturday. Barrier 3 is perfect. It’s all come together.

Any local chances to watch out for?

I’ve always liked October Date who was strong at the end when he ran third behind Bodeiger in the Lord Reims stakes a week ago.
