Lincoln Moore’s Morphettville Preview

SA racing industry journalist Lincoln Moore launched his TRSA Saturday tipping service in a blaze of glory last weekend, labelling Instant Celebrity his ‘best bet’ and Sadente his ‘best roughie’.

RACE 1 - 11:42AM Happy 60th Grant "Jock" Jennings Handicap (2000 METRES)

WOOLSTHORPE STORE was ultra-impressive last start. There was money to suggest the Mick O’Leary-trained nine-year-old would run well and he raced away from rivals to win by 3.3 lengths over the 1800m trip. He’s a dual winner over 2000m and is going to take plenty of beating if he can reproduce that effort. BERTWHISTLE looks well weighted here, is back slightly in trip, and was a strong winner over 2100m at Gawler. The only knock is the fact he’s one win from seven starts on this track. EXALTED RUTH was a specked at odds and ran well behind BERTWHISTLE two starts back before proving too good for Sign Of Ussuri last week. Like a lot of Grant Young’s horses she’s durable, having her fourth run for the month of July, and must be respected. CLASSY JOE is another racing well and was a good winner at Gawler last time out. Just Rolling has franked that form with a good win at Murray Bridge during the week and there has been early money to support that. OURKHANI is a lightly-raced stayer who made very good ground behind Elusive Rose over the 1800m trip last time, he’ll appreciate getting out to 2000m.

RACE 2 - 12:17PM AAMI Handicap (2500 METRES)

CRACKSMAN looks nicely graded again here in Adelaide. He got well back and was the benefit of a very well-judged ride by Todd Pannell when he cut down rivals at Morphettville on June 20. He was sent out favourite when beaten into third place at Bendigo last time behind Blanchford Lad, but that form stacks up well with that horse winning well at Sandown during the week. He draws a nice gate and looks the top pick. MANZALA is racing very well but just keeps finding one or two better. He was beaten just under two lengths behind EXALTED RUTH last week and gets in well with the claim. TURF MAN has never won in 11 starts on this track but he was strong through the line when winning over this trip at Murray Bridge last time. The John Hickmott and Sairyn Fawke combination is flying. HASTA LA FIORENTE has a good record and defeated Set To Cruise two runs back, before hitting the line well behind Elusive Rose last time. He has been well supported in early markets.

RACE 3 - 12:52PM TAB Handicap (1200 METRES)

A race with plenty of chances. CALYPSO REIGN got a long way back and made some ground at Flemington last week. He looked very good winning at Murray Bridge two starts back and looks a big chance again here. MAGNO has a good record and came from a long way back to finish runner-up behind CALYPSO REIGN last time out and looks a horse trending upwards. JACOBITE PRINCE has a good record, winning four of nine, and has been freshened since he led and was disappointing behind Eluding at Murray Bridge. The claim brings him right into this and he looks the leader from gate three. CLASSY JAYBEE is racing in particularly good form, winning at Gawler and Balaklava before running second to The Natural last time at Gawler. He’s lightly-raced and has upside. DEEVINE is another who will race close to the speed and he led through last time at Gawler back in class. The stable has a nice opinion of him and he has been specked at double-figure odds. RENOUF stuck on well at Gawler last time and is drawn to get a nice run just behind the speed from gate one.

RACE 4 - 1:27PM Furphy Handicap (1050 METRES)

Looks a race with a lot of speed on paper and I am prepared to go with some value. FANCY RUMBLE is fitter for two runs back from a lengthy break. She ran well, making ground from a long way back, behind Star Hills first-up before being beaten four lengths behind Octane last time. It’s been a while since we saw her best, but she has been placed three times at Listed level: runner-up behind Despatch in the 2018 Redelva, third behind Nature Strip in the 2018 Lightning Stakes, and second to Everyday Lady in the 2019 Manihi. It’s handy form for a field like this, but it is 97 weeks since she last won a race. STAR OF MONSOON made ground to finish third behind Irish Mint last time out. His form has been solid but he is winless from six starts this track. Todd Pannell taking the ride could be a strong pointer to him running well. NASIFA draws to be right in the mix here and has strong form around Silverhawk. Her record this track and a trip is very good. AKKACAN is racing well, being placed at his past three, and hit the line well behind HYPERSONIC last week. The wide gate hasn’t helped his chances and he’s one from 21 starts on this track. BEERMINT is in a rich vein of form winning two successive races at Murray Bridge before sticking on well behind Hypersonic here last week. He’s going to need some luck from a sticky gate. ROCK HARD looked very sharp in a recent Morphettville jump out. He draws to be right on the speed here from gate three with Jason Holder booked to ride. SCHILLDORA, like FANCY RUMBLE, is an interesting runner. Her best would probably have her winning this type of race, but it’s been a while since we’ve seen that. She just missed at Group 2 level at Flemington back in 2018 and was placed in last year’s Wylie Stakes behind Soothing, but her form since has been only fair. She maps to get an OK run midfield and wouldn’t shock to see her give this a shake.

RACE 5 - 2:07PM Dominant Handicap (1100 METRES)

Good race with two promising horses lining up. OCTANE is a very smart horse capable of measuring up in stronger grade. Sure, his racing pattern can sometimes be his own worst enemy, but he possesses the best turn of foot in the race. He’s won five of 11 starts and was back to his brilliant best when he gave some handy horses a start and was too smart at Gawler. Drawn nicely in the middle of the line, he will again be the one flashing late and might be just too smart for them. RAINMOTH is the interesting runner first-up from a break. She has won four of seven starts and was runner-up behind Bumper Blast at Flemington back in the spring before going for a break. That form reads very well with Bumper Blast winning twice at Flemington since, and RAINMOTH has the benefit of a good effort when third in a recent Morphettville trial – but OCTANE has the fitness edge. Veteran South East galloper SOUL FIRE has a good winning strike rate and a very good first-up record with three wins and three placings from eight starts. He trialled well for this first-up assignment. ARKHAM KNIGHT would be right in this on his best form and his run behind Oh Mo last week was better than it reads on paper. COLUMBIA has a great record since joining the Will Clarken stable and might be an improver with the blinkers going on after he was only fair, beaten 6.1 lengths behind Octane first-up at Gawler. EXTREME THRILL is handy on his day and made very good ground three starts back. CROWN FONTEIN is a good horse on his day and is two from two on this track, plus the Hickmott team is going nicely.

RACE 6 - 2:47PM Schweppes Handicap (1600 METRES)

Wide open race. IT’SAYESFROMME was ridden on speed when he tired at Bendigo last time. His previous two Pakenham wins came from off the speed and on synthetic surfaces, but his overall record is solid, with three wins and five placings from 11 starts. SO WE ARE is a good horse on her day, and drops back to the mile which I think is a big plus, and she’ll get a good run from gate three. THE ANT’S PANTS was a very good run on a quick back-up two runs ago when she came from a long way back to run third behind Task and Purpose. She jumped favourite and didn’t make an impression behind Sadente last week but looks over the odds. ANALYTICA was a winner at big odds last time. She draws wide but has Todd Pannell. STAR STAUS and stablemate SUPER SWOOP are both ticking over well but probably slightly better suited over a touch further.

RACE 7 - TAB Lightning Stakes (1050m)

JUST ZERENE is a very smart filly with an X-factor. She showed huge potential early in her career and was having huge problems behind the barriers before finally getting things together late last campaign, winning at Murray Bridge and Gawler. The inside alley might not be ideal but if she has matured between preparations, she’ll be hard to beat.  EUPHORIC SUMMER is a smart filly who campaigned in Queensland early in the season, running third in the Group 3 BJ McLachlan at Eagle Farm before running down the track behind Away Game in the Magic Millions Classic. She was beaten first-up at Mornington before closing late behind Salpeter at Caulfield. She’s drawn to be right in the mix. Stablemate PARLOPONE resumed with a good Sandown win despite drifting in betting and is also drawn to get a good run from the middle gate. Local ALLEZ SUR LE GRIS looked good in a Morphettville trial before taking that to race day where she was able to work to the lead and hold off Who Runs The World at Gawler on debut. She’ll be right in the mix from barrier three and looks a filly with a future. Anthony Freedman’s SUPREME IDEA is a promising filly who was beaten just over three lengths in a Blue Diamond Preview before heading to Sydney where she won the Listed Lonhro Plate at nice odds. She then led up when eighth behind Dane Giselle in the Group 2 Reisling Stakes. She looks nicely suited in a race like this. SIZZLEFLY was well fancied first-up at Caulfield but failed to make an impression behind Bless Her. She has won two (one placing) from four starts this track and look for her to make her presence felt. The second of the McEvoys, THE NATURAL, has won two of his past four and has race fitness on her side. She drifted sharply in betting before winning easily at Gawler last time. FLOSTAR was well backed here against the older horses two starts back and will no doubt be handy to the speed from gate two. GARVOC has plenty of talent and trialled well.

RACE 8 – Holdfast Insurance Handicap (1200 METRES)

THE DIFFERENCE has always carried a big boom and he looked the part winning on debut at Murray Bridge in July last year. He got a mile out of his ground before steaming home first-up at Murray Bridge, draws perfectly and looks the clear top pick. He opened a very good price and it didn’t take punters long to snap that up. CARBONE is chasing his fourth win on the bounce. He got a long way back before easily rounding up rivals at Gawler and it’s impossible to overlook a horse racing in the form he is in. WILD COLONIAL BOY has a good record and has missed a place just twice in 13 starts. He draws a nice gate and Michael O’Leary doesn’t bring them to town unless he thinks they will run well. BEEOKAY has been racing very well, was a winner here four runs back and was game last week when runner-up behind Oh Mo. He draws CALL ME DEXTER is chasing his third win in succession after wins and Balaklava and Gawler.

RACE 9 – TAB Handicap (1100 METRES)

AIR MARSHALL gets the blinkers again here and it looks a very winnable race. He’s been around the mark at his past three since resuming ad he got a long way out of his ground behind The Natural at Gawler last time. He defeated the very smart Perfect Route over 1200m back in January and certainly gets his chance. MIAMI FREEDOM was well backed to win on the Parks track four runs back but was a big drifter ($1.90 to $3) when beaten into third place behind Turf Tapper at Bordertown last time. HOT SIZZLE is a former Victorian who ran well at his SA debut at Gawler and could be an improver. FRENCH ROCK made good ground at Murray Bridge first-up but is one win from 20 starts this track. He has been specked in early betting.

BEST BET: THE DIFFERENCE (Race 8)

EACH-WAY: PARLOPHONE (Race 7)

VALUE: FANCY RUMBLE (Race 4)
