Evanston Sprint Partnership

The Gawler & Barossa Jockey Club (GBJC) are delighted to announce an exciting new partnership, that aligns an iconic race on our calendar and a local family owned bloodstock company.

Adelaide Plains Bloodstock is a family owned and operated breeding operation located right here in the Gawler Belt. With over 20 years’ experience of breeding and racing horses, Henny Leverink, his son Ben and his wife Sam Leverink made the big commitment two years ago to start their own business and begin investing in some nice broodmares.

The new Adelaide Plains breeding business has already generated some early great results “In our first year in business we sold a lovely filly to team McEvoy who we retained a share in, she is looking very promising. It was also a great thrill to break the 100k barrier in our first ever draft.” said Ben Leverink

Their multiyear partnership with the Gawler & Barossa club will see the major sprint race so rich in history on the racing calendar - The Evanston Sprint, now be known as the Adelaide Plains Bloodstock Evanston Sprint.

GBJC Chief Executive Officer Shane Collins was delighted to announce the partnership, “As a club we are so proud and honoured to generate partnerships with local businesses, especially when they are also committed and invested into the racing industry. Adelaide Plains Bloodstock have really stamped their brand on the local breeding scene in such a quick time, and we look forward to helping them grow even bigger into the future.”

The Evanston Sprint is a race that has stood the test of time and is so rich in the Gawler jockey clubs history, being the major sprint race of the year and is conducted on the club’s biggest day of the year, Gawler Cup day.

“Adelaide Plains Bloodstock are really excited about securing the naming rights to the Evanston Sprint for the next 4 years and partnering the Gawler & Barossa Jockey Club. We look forward to a great partnership with the race and hope it along with the huge Gawler Cup day can continue to grow” added Leverink.

With a committed vision in bringing the best possible pedigrees from around Australia to the local market and to grow and expand the breeding industry in the region while constantly looking to upgrade bloodstock, the future looks exciting for Adelaide Plains Bloodstock and the passionate Leverink family.

The Gawler & Barossa Jockey Club thank the Leverink family and the entire team from Adelaide Plains Bloodstock for their commitment in supporting the racing industry.
