Raquel glued to Cup coverage of ‘Dallas’

Raquel Clark will be glued to the television on Saturday when her favourite horse, Dalasan, lines-up in the $5 million Caulfield Cup (2400m).

Clark played a major role in the horse’s early career and was aboard the colt when he won four of his first five starts, including the Group 2 Danehill Stakes at Flemington last September.

The rising star of the saddle hasn’t ridden since a fall past the post at Morphettville last November where she suffered head trauma. She will head back to Adelaide next month for an update.

“I’m actually going back to my doctors in November,” Clark said on RadioTAB.

“I get to go over and see the specialist, neurosurgeon and all the other doctors I’ve been dealing with that have been so good during COVID times. I’ve been very lucky with that.

“I’m going well with my physio – hopefully they’ve got some good news for me. I’m slowly getting there but interested to see what they say.”

Clark was told to take a year away from the saddle to recover following the fall and said she was still struggling with aspects of her recovery.

“My memory is massive thing,’’ Clark added.

“I think it’s getting slightly better with time, but my memory is probably the most annoying thing.

“That wasn’t the Raquel before,’’ she added.

Clark said she was in regular contact with SA’s riding fraternity during what has been a challenging year for the rising star of the saddle.

“I’ve been very lucky, I spoke to couple of jockeys at Port Lincoln the other day,” Clark said.

“I’ve been blessed and very lucky to have so many people reach out to me, it’s really nice.”

Clark said despite taking a lot of her energy, she will have her eye on “Dallas” on Saturday from back home in Tasmania and said the horse had been impressive without winning during the spring.

“I’m quite glued to the TV on Saturdays,” Clark said.

“Every time Dalasan races I get quite nervous.

“He’s been so solid. He’s really tough and really honest and I’m excited for his run on Saturday.”
