Gytrash gallant as Classique Legend claims Everest

South Australian sprint star Gytrash was brave behind brilliant Classique Legend in the $15m TAB Everest at Royal Randwick.

While the Les Bridge-trained Classique Legend gave South Australian jockey Kerrin McEvoy a remarkable third Everest in just the race’s fourth running, Gytrash flashed home late to grab third spot in the world’s richest race on turf.

Buried back on the fence as Eduardo set a hectic tempo up front, Gytrash was fifth last turning for home before picking up strongly between horses and should have arguably finished closer to the winner Classique Legend who scored an emphatic 2.5 length win.

The South Australian form was strong in with Goodwood winner Trekking running fourth, fellow South Australian Behemoth fading late to run 10th while Dollar For Dollar was the last horse home.
