Westover to leave NT and return to SA

Former South Australian-based apprentice Scott Westover is returning to Adelaide to train at Morphettville.

Westover said the recent prizemoney increases and opportunity to further his training career was the catalyst for the move.

“I can’t wait to get back,” Westover said.

“Obviously racing in the NT is a little bit limited with the type of horses you get to train up here, so coming back will be a chance to try and find a nice horse.”

Westover, who rode 172 winners during his nine-year riding career, returned home to the Northern Territory – where he kick-started the next phase of his racing career as trainer – after retiring from race riding in 2016.

He landed his first winner with former local galloper Love Club, who was originally with his former boss Jon O’Connor, at Alice in April last year.

“Adelaide is home to me,” Westover said.

He plans to be in Adelaide by the middle of January and will bring a team of six horses with him. Westover is hoping the positive response since announcing the news of his move on social media will only see those numbers increase in the New Year.

“I’ve had so much support since making it official, my phone hasn’t stopped,” Westover said.

“I’ve already picked up a new horse this morning so I just can’t wait to get back.”
